How to Set Up IPTV on iPhone, iPad & Apple TV

Apple devices are the most locked-down platform we support, and that shapes everything about the setup. There is no sideloading, no APK files and no Downloader app – whatever you install has to come from the App Store. The good news is that once a player is installed, signing in is quicker than on any other device because you have a real keyboard.

Why Apple is a bit different

Two things catch people out:

• Apps come and go. Apple reviews IPTV players closely and occasionally removes one. If the app we recommend is missing when you look, message us and we will tell you what is currently in the store – the login details stay the same whichever player you use.
• Some players charge. A few iOS IPTV apps ask a small one-off App Store payment. That money goes to the app developer, not to us, and there is no way for us to bundle or refund it.

iPhone and iPad

1. Open the App Store.
2. Search for Smarters Player Lite. If it is not there, ask us for the current recommendation.
3. Install it and open it.
4. Accept the terms screen.
5. Choose the Xtream Codes API login option.
6. Enter your username, password and server URL. Tap and hold in the URL field to paste it straight from WhatsApp rather than typing it – fewer mistakes.
7. Confirm and let the channel list download.

The app remembers the login, so you only do this once per device. Both an iPhone and an iPad can have the app installed at the same time, though only one can be streaming at any moment on a single-connection subscription.

Apple TV

Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD both work, and this is the best picture quality of any device we support – the hardware decoder is excellent and the interface stays fast even with a very large channel list.

1. On the Apple TV, open the App Store.
2. Search for your IPTV player using the on-screen keyboard, or dictate it with the Siri Remote.
3. Install and open it.
4. Enter your credentials. This is far easier if you use the iPhone keyboard – when a text field is selected on the Apple TV, a notification appears on any nearby iPhone signed into the same Apple ID, and you can type from there.

Mac

On an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 and later), iPhone and iPad apps can often be installed directly – look for the "iPhone & iPad Apps" tab when you search the Mac App Store. On an Intel Mac that option does not exist, and the practical route is VLC: open VLC, choose File → Open Network and paste your M3U playlist URL. VLC plays the channels but has no programme guide, so it is best kept for occasional viewing.

AirPlay to a television

If your television supports AirPlay, you can start a channel on the iPhone and send it to the screen. It works, but be aware of the trade-offs:

• The phone stays busy for as long as you watch, and the battery drains quickly.
• There is a small delay, which is noticeable on live sport.
• A phone call or notification can interrupt the stream.

For regular viewing on the TV, install a player on the television or on an Apple TV rather than casting from the phone.

Common Apple problems

The app I was told to install is not in the App Store

It has most likely been pulled or renamed. Message us on WhatsApp and we will confirm what is currently available. Your subscription is unaffected – any player that accepts Xtream Codes will work with the same details.

"Invalid credentials" but the same details work on another device

Almost always an autocorrect problem. iOS capitalises the first letter of a text field and may substitute characters in the URL. Paste rather than type, and check there is no space at the end.

Channels stop when the screen locks

Expected behaviour on iOS. Audio may continue but video stops. Turn off auto-lock while watching, or use a device connected to the TV.

Poor quality on mobile data

iOS has a Low Data Mode that throttles video. Check Settings → Mobile Data → Mobile Data Options and turn Low Data Mode off if you are watching away from home.

Apple questions

Does it work on an old iPad?

If it runs iOS 13 or newer, generally yes. Older iPads may not be able to install a current player at all, since the App Store enforces a minimum iOS version.

Can I download programmes to watch offline?

No. IPTV is a live stream; there is nothing stored on the device to watch later.

Is an Apple TV better than a Firestick for this?

For picture quality and interface speed, clearly yes. For value, no – an Apple TV costs many times what a Firestick does, and both play the same streams. Buy one if you already want an Apple TV; do not buy one purely for IPTV.

Will using AirPlay reduce quality?

Slightly. The stream is re-encoded on the way to the screen. Direct playback on the TV device always looks better.
