How to Set Up IPTV on a MAG Box

A MAG box is a dedicated IPTV set-top box made by Infomir. It does one job and it does it simply: switch it on and you are looking at a channel list, exactly like a traditional cable box. There are no apps to install, no store to browse and nothing to update. For anyone who finds a Firestick fiddly – particularly older relatives – it is by far the easiest device to live with.

The set-up is different from every other device in this guide, and it is worth understanding why before you start.

How a MAG box works

Other devices ask you for a username and password. A MAG box does not. Instead:

1. Every box has a unique MAC address burned into it at the factory.
2. You send that MAC address to us, and we tie it to your subscription at our end.
3. You type a portal URL into the box – one address, once.
4. From then on the box identifies itself by its MAC address every time it connects, and the portal sends back your channel list.

The practical consequence: the subscription belongs to that specific box. Move to a different MAG box and the MAC changes, so we have to re-register it. Tell us before you switch and it takes a minute.

Step 1 – find your MAC address

There are two places to look:

• On the box. Turn it over. The sticker on the underside lists the MAC as six pairs of characters, usually starting 00:1A:79:.
• On screen. From the main menu go to Settings → System Settings → About. The MAC is listed there.

Copy it exactly, including the colons. If you are photographing the sticker, check the image is sharp – 0 and O, 8 and B, and 5 and S are easy to misread, and one wrong character means the box will not authorise.

Step 2 – register it with us

Send the MAC address to us on WhatsApp along with your order. We add it to your line and reply with the portal URL to type into the box.

This is a manual step at our end, so it is not instant. During normal hours it is usually done within minutes; at busy times allow up to an hour.

Step 3 – enter the portal URL

1. From the main menu open Settings.
2. Go to System Settings.
3. Open Servers, then Portals.
4. In Portal 1 name type anything you like, for example B1G.
5. In Portal 1 URL type the address exactly as we sent it. Include http:// and any trailing part such as /c/ or /stalker_portal/c/ – these matter.
6. Press OK to save, then EXIT.
7. Press the power button on the remote and choose Restart Portal.

The box reboots into the portal and your channels appear. First load takes a minute or so while the guide downloads.

Model differences

Any of these work with our service. If you are buying one, a 322 is the sensible middle ground unless you specifically want 4K.

STB Emulator on Android

You can make an Android box behave like a MAG using STB Emulator. This is useful if you already own an Android box and want the MAG-style interface, or if your MAG has failed and you need something working tonight.

1. Install STB Emulator on the Android device.
2. Open it, press the menu button and choose Settings → Profiles → Test portal.
3. Open STB Configuration → STB Model and select MAG 250.
4. Go back, open Portal settings and enter the portal name and URL.
5. Note the virtual MAC address the app shows and send it to us so we can register it, exactly as with a physical box.
6. Restart the app.

The emulator's MAC is generated by the app, not the hardware – if you reinstall the app it may change, and the line will need re-registering.

Portal errors and fixes

"Portal not found" or a blank screen after restart

The URL has a typo, or a missing piece at the end. Re-open Portals and read it character by character against the message we sent. A missing /c/ is the most frequent cause.

Box says the MAC is not authorised

Either the MAC was mistyped when you sent it, or registration has not been completed yet. Send us a photo of the Settings → System Settings → About screen – that removes any doubt about what the real address is.

Channels load but freeze every few seconds

MAG boxes are sensitive to network quality and have no large buffer to fall back on. Use Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi wherever possible. If the box is on a Wi-Fi dongle, move it closer to the router or replace the dongle with a powerline adapter.

Everything worked, then stopped after a power cut

Occasionally a hard power loss corrupts the box's settings. Re-enter the portal URL and restart the portal. If the box will not boot past the logo, hold the reset pinhole while powering on to factory reset, then set it up again.

Remote works but the box ignores the OK button in menus

Weak batteries cause exactly this – enough power for simple commands, not enough for the infrared burst the OK button sends. Replace them before troubleshooting anything else.

MAG questions

Can I use the same subscription on a MAG and a Firestick?

Yes, but only one can stream at a time on a single connection. The MAG uses the portal, the Firestick uses the username and password – both point at the same account.

Do MAG boxes get software updates?

Rarely, and they are pushed by Infomir rather than by us. You do not need to chase them; the boxes work fine on the firmware they ship with.

Is a MAG box better than a Firestick?

It is simpler, not better. There is nothing to install and nothing to break, which suits some households perfectly. A Firestick is cheaper, does far more and has a much nicer interface. Choose the MAG for simplicity, the Firestick for flexibility.

What if I buy a second-hand MAG?

Check it is not still registered to someone else's provider, and factory reset it before use. Then send us the MAC address as normal.
